Citizen advisory boards and committees, to which the City Council makes appointments, are an integral part of the governmental process in the City of Punta Gorda. The citizens that serve on these various boards and committees have an interest or experience in the area of service and the necessary expertise to accomplish the goals and objectives of the specific advisory group.
Some of these boards require financial disclosures. The appointees are required by Section 112.3145, Florida Statutes, to file a Form 1 Statement of Financial Interests with the Supervisor of Elections within 30 days of appointment.
Anyone interested in serving on a board or committee must complete an online application.
Appointed members and those interested in serving should review the City's Board Member Handbook and be willing to comply with the requirements therein. Topics covered include an overview of the City's boards and committees, meeting procedures and Florida's Public Records Law and Sunshine Law.
The Sunshine Law applies to both elected and appointed officials. If a complaint is alleged, the proper procedure is to file a sworn complaint with the Florida Commission on Ethics.
