A Partnership for Success

Replacing a seawall is a team effort between the City's contractors and residents. To ensure the project goes smoothly, here is a clear breakdown of responsibilities.

The City's Contractor Will:

  • Remove the old or failed seawall.

  • Clear obstructions, including docks and davits if necessary.

  • Install the new seawall.

  • Backfill the area behind the new wall.

  • Lay new sod (Floratam or Bahia) to finish the project.

The Resident Is Responsible For:

  • Securing or removing all personal property and improvements near the seawall, including:

    • Docks and boat lifts

    • Fences

    • Irrigation lines and sprinkler heads

    • Water and electrical lines

    • Any other personal items or landscaping

A Note About Your Dock and Lift:

  • Undamaged Docks: Contractors can usually work around freestanding docks that are in good condition.

  • Damaged Docks: If your dock or lift was damaged by the seawall failure, we strongly encourage you to contact a marine contractor before the seawall replacement begins. They can advise you on whether parts of your dock or lift can be secured and reused.
